Aki Kuroda

Aki Kuroda was born in Kyoto in 1944, living in Paris since 1970. After the 1980 Paris Biennale, he held solo exhibitions around the world. In 1993, he held a solo exhibition at The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. The following year, he held a solo exhibition at The National Museum of Art, Osaka. In 1995, he participated in the São Paulo Biennial. In 1993, he designed the stage art for the Paris Opera for "Parade." He has also created public art works such as "Cosmogarden" for Minamiyamashiro Village Elementary School in Kyoto Prefecture in collaboration with architect Richard Rogers and Tokyo Dome MEETS PORT HALL. In recent years, in addition to the humanoid figures he has been painting for a long time, he has also created large paintings with rough brushstrokes, such as Self-Portrait, which combines the Minotaur and a self-portrait, and Organic City Breaking, a city floating in space. Even now at over 80 years old, he is a rare artist who is constantly transforming.

1944年京都生まれ、1970年よりパリ在住。1980年パリ国際ビエンナーレ以降、世界各国で個展を開催。1993年東京国立近代美術館において個展。1995年にサンパウロ・ビエンナーレ、1993年『パラード』のパリオペラ座の舞台美術を手がける。建築家リチャード・ロジャース氏との京都府南山城小学校、東京ドームMEETS PORT HALLなどのパブリックアート『COSMOGARDEN（宇宙庭園）』を制作。近年は、以前から描き続けてきた人型figure作品はもとより、ミノタウロスと自画像を綯い交ぜにしたSelf portraitや宇宙に浮かぶ都市organic city breakingなど荒々しい筆致の大型ペインティングを描くなど、80歳を超える今尚、常に変容し続ける希有な作家です。パブリック・コレクション：東京国立近代美術館（東京）、国立国際美術館（大阪）、京都市京セラ美術館（京都）、マーグ財団（サン=ポール=ド=ヴァンス、フランス）など多数
